Why isn’t everyday design in India better?
Walk into any Indian home built in the last decade. The furniture is considered. The lighting is intentional. Then look at the fan. The blender. The iron.
The same brands your parents bought, in the same colours they always came in. They did the job but in an Eastmancolour, 9-to-5 way. Homes changed. Appliances didn't.
NUUK was born to close that gap. The weight of a handle. The finish on a surface. The silence in motorised movement. For us, design and performance aren't a trade-off. They're the same conversation.
Behind the name
Brainstorms, rough drafts, disagreements, a few hundred maybes. The answer was in the corners all along.
So the founders locked themselves in a room for a weekend and refused to leave without a name.
They landed on nook. Intimate. Unpretentious. On paper it became NUUK and something clicked. Something familiar, made new. NUUK is inspired by the nooks and corners of your home. Intimate spaces, quietly alive with everyday rituals.
Great design belongs to everyone and everywhere, not just in art magazines or studios.

We design at the beginning.
Then we do it again.
Before a single sketch is drawn, our team spends weeks in real homes. Watching, listening, learning how people live with their appliances.
A mixer-grinder in a Mumbai kitchen sits differently from one in a Jaipur home. That difference matters more than you'd think.
We prototype. We test. We take products back to the people who’ll actually use them. We rebuild until everything feels right in the space it's meant for. When something finally meets our standards, it finds its way into your nooks.
Two people who couldn't find a
decent-looking fan. So they built
a company.
We didn't set out to build a brand. We just wanted an appliance that didn't make us choose between looking good and working well. That search took longer than it should have. It took us through boardrooms, factories, a pit stop at the Stanford Design School, Indian homes and several arguments about whether the handle should be matte or gloss. (It's matte. It was always going to be matte.)
What we found along the way was a gap so obvious, so persistent, that it could only exist because no one had cared enough to close it. So we decided to care.
Two years and 350,000 homes later, we're still learning. Still refining. Still rebuilding — one product, one experience, one nook at a time. Our moonshot? To make "Designed in India" a mark of pride, not a footnote.
